Some Assorted Hockey Coverage

Some Assorted Hockey Coverage

So recently I started doing a fair bit of sports photography. With rugby, football, and soccer being done give, uh, winter, I’ve shifted my focus to hockey.

I started covering Stingers games in late November last year (you may have seen some in the year in review). Since then, I’ve shot for maybe… 6 games? Ideally in the future I would dedicate a post to each game but these happened so long ago that I’m just going to lump them together. As we go along, I’ll try to link the game recaps so that you can get a better idea of how the games went. My memory tends to be a bit foggy on the details.

Game 1: Women’s Hockey – Stingers v Martlets

This was my first hockey game, and I think… I think I did a decent job. This was a really good time, and of course a Stingers win really sealed the deal. 7 – 1 is kind of crazy, not gonna lie.

Looking back, I didn’t get very many action shots, but that’ll soon change.

Game 2: Men’s Hockey – Stingers v Lakers

So Concordia faced off against Nipissing. I’ll be real with you… I had no idea Nipissing existed. Like let’s be so for real who even thinks about northern Ontario?

I remember very little from this game. I even forgot their team existed until I found these photos.

I was there because we were writing a feature on the Stingers’ goaltender, #30. I ended up getting the above shot, which is one of my favorites. I’m not a massive fan of the edit I did at the time, but I really did not want to go back on my previous artistic vision (no matter how naive I was at the time). This was the only image I liked from that game, which is fine, it was my second hockey game. This game also took place the day after Game 1, soooooo.

Game 3: Men’s Hockey – Stingers v Lancers

This one was a little less fun. A stingers defeat from a very aggressive Windsor team. 4-2 final score, stingers were attempting a comeback but things just didn’t work out. From a photography perspective, it was a step forward in my capabilities.

There was also a band playing!

Probably should’ve edited that image a little more heavily but whatever. I was finding my stride.

Finally, a little bit of an artsy piece.

Game 4: Men’s Hockey – Stingers v Warriors

Not much to say about this one. A 7-2 win is always good, but I don’t remember much else from it.

What even happened this game… I think the McGill goalie cried again?

Well other than the usual Stingers destroying their competition, you know. Many key players for the team were away playing at FISU, so it was fun to see the rest of the team step up. The women’s games are always so fun to watch and shoot.
